NEPSI's lead commissioning engineer, Mark Howson announced today that his commissioning team completed the startup and commissioning of two large filter systems located at Buenavista del Cobre Copper Mine in Cananea, Mexico. The mine is owned and operated by Grupo Mexico and is responsible for nearly 475,000 tonnes of Copper production per year.

NEPSI's filter system provides power factor correction and harmonic filtering on two large 25 MVA rectifiers designed and manufactured by Neeltran, Inc. to support the mines electrowinning (electroextraction) process. NEPSI involvement included Harmonic Analysis, Filter Design, Construction, Fabrication, and Commissioning. The filter system was rated 12,851 kvar and was tuned to the multiple harmonics with damping resistors to meet IEEE 519 Harmonic Standards. All disconnecting, protection, and control were prefabricated and tested at NEPSI facility in Queensbury, NY.

NEPSI is the leading world supplier of medium-voltage metal-enclosed capacitor banks and harmonic filter banks. NEPSI's equipment is used by industrial, commercial, and utility power system owners and operators with voltages from 2.4kV through 38kV to correct power factor and improve power quality.
