Air Disconnect Switch provides "visible break" and allows for safe entry into capacitor bank or harmonic filter bank

Ground switch provides and effective means to ground the load-side terminals of the air-disconnect switch

The air disconnect switch and ground switch are typically operated by an external pad-lockable chain operated handle.

Direct drive and shaft drive handle operators are also available.

Incoming Air-Disconnect Switch & Ground
Switch

NEPSI's Metal-Enclosed Capacitor Banks and Harmonic Filter Banks are equipped with an incoming air disconnect switch and ground switch to allow for safe isolation from the power system during maintenance. These switches are located in an isolated compartment (behind an internal swingout door) to allow for safe entry into the main incoming fuse compartment and capacitor compartment without inadvertent contact with live terminals/cables.

The air disconnect switch is not intended for load interruption, and therefore is an integral part of the capacitor bank key interlock system. Load interruption is dictated by the key interlock sequence and is provided by the banks vacuum switches/contactors.

Customer connections are made directly to the incoming air-disconnect switch.

Specification
The table below provides available disconnect and ground switch voltage and short circuit ratings. Banks come standard with a 40 kA Asymmetrical switch. The higher rated 61 kA switches are available on request.
