Main Incoming Fuses are manufactured by leading firms within the United States. These fuses, and many cases are stocked for immediate delivery.

Main Incoming Fuses
Compartment

NEPSI's Metal-Enclosed Capacitor Banks and Harmonic Filter Banks are equipped with a main-incoming fuse compartment that is isolated from the capacitor/reactor compartment and the main incoming/air-disconnect compartment. This allows for safe replacement of blown fuses. Fuses are equipped with blown fuse indicators and are visible through a window.

NEPSI tyically utilizes medium voltage current limiting fuses from either Cooper Power Systems or Ferras Shawmut. Non-Current Limiting Fuses from S&C are also utilized for system voltages greater than 15.5kV and when bank currents exceed available current limiting fuse ratings. The specific fuse utilized is dependent upon customer preference, lead-time, cost, voltage and current rating.

Main incoming fuses provide main bus protection for the Metal-Enclosed Capacitor Bank or Harmonic Filter Bank and provide backup protection for capacitor fuses.

It should be noted that the main incoming fuses are not intended for overload protection.

Specification

  • Voltage Rating - Fuse voltage rating is chosen such that it is greater than the system line-line voltage. See Table-1 for available voltage ratings.

  • Current Rating - Fuse current rating is chosen such that it is at least 35% greater than the banks full load current. Banks with expansion capability may be equipped with higher current rated fuses or with provision that will accept a higher current rated fuse. See Table-1 for available current ratings.

  • Short Circuit Rating - Fus short circuit rating is chosen such that it is greater than the available short circuit current at the capacitor bank terminals. See Table-1 for maximum available values.
